David says that God’s nature reveals His greatness. But in this psalm, David did not emphasize God’s goodness that He gives rain and sun to the righteous and the wicked. Rather, he proclaims the power of God through natural phenomena, such as great thunders and floods that can cause fear to man. David’s reason for doing so is to warn men, who cannot see God’s presence as a blind man and who cannot hear the voice of God as deaf. So that they would have fear of God. David, however, is doing this warning through soft reproof which could be able to lead them to voluntarily serve God. Calvin said that only those who voluntarily worship God can proclaim God’s glory most accurately. What God wants of man is to see God’s power and worship God. David also praised God, who gives strength to His people and blesses them with peace. God promised to bless all who acknowledge God’s power as the source of all blessings.
