[시편 1편]
1.복 있는 사람은 악인들의 꾀를 따르지 아니하며 죄인들의 길에 서지 아니하며 오만한 자들의 자리에 앉지 아니하고 2.오직 여호와의 율법을 즐거워하여 그의 율법을 주야로 묵상하는도다 3.그는 시냇가에 심은 나무가 철을 따라 열매를 맺으며 그 잎사귀가 마르지 아니함 같으니 그가 하는 모든 일이 다 형통하리로다 4.악인들은 그렇지 아니함이여 오직 바람에 나는 겨와 같도다 5.그러므로 악인들은 심판을 견디지 못하며 죄인들이 의인들의 모임에 들지 못하리로다 6.무릇 의인들의 길은 여호와께서 인정하시나 악인들의 길은 망하리로다
“이 전체의 핵심은 하늘의 지혜 추구에 자신들의 마음을 쏟는 자들이 복이 있고, 하나님께 대한 속된 멸시자들은 비록 당분간은 자신들이 행복한 것을 여길지 모르지만 마지막에 가서는 더 없이 비참한 결말을 갖게 되고 만다는 내용이다.”
“하나님의 율법 연구에 한결같은 진전을 보는 독실한 종들은 언젠가 만사 형통하게 될 것이라는 내용이다.”
“우리의 위험을 제대로 이해하려면 이 세상에는 치명적인 타락으로 가득차 있다는 것과 잘 사는 첫 단 계는 불경건한 자들과의 교제를 끊는 데 있다는 것을 필연적으로 기억해야 한다. 만일 그렇지 않으면 그 자체의 오염이 반드시 우리를 감염시키고 말 것이 분명하다.”
“‘율법에 대한 묵상’을 경건으로 지칭함으로 하나님의 법을 순종하는 것만이 오직 그를 제대로 섬기는 것이라는 점을 가르쳐 주고 있다.”
“율법에 대한 이와 같은 사랑에서부터 그것에 대한 한결 같은 묵상이 나온다.”
“악한 자들이 현재는 번창하게 살지만 날이 갈수록 그들은 쭉정이와 같이 된다는 것이다.”
“그러므로 우리는 그들의 환상적인 행복 때문에 기만당하지 말고 역경에 처할 때마다 우리 눈앞에 세상만사를 안정시키시고 혼란에서 질서를 가져오시는 하나님의 섭리를 떠올리도록 해야겠다.”

[Psalm 1]
1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
“The sum and substance of the whole is, that they are blessed who apply their hearts to the pursuit of heavenly wisdom; whereas the profane despisers of God, although for a time they may reckon themselves happy, shall at length have a most miserable end.”
“it shall be always well with God’s devout servants, whose constant endeavor it is to make progress in the study of his law.”
“That we may be fully apprised of our danger, it is necessary to remember that the world is fraught with deadly corruption, and that the first step to living well is to renounce the company of the ungodly, otherwise it is sure to infect us with its own pollution.”
“but designates godliness ‘by the study of the law’, teaching us that God is only rightly served when had law is obeyed.”
“From this love of the law proceeds constant meditation upon it”
“although the ungodly now live prosperously, yet by and by they shall be like chaff”
“Instead, therefore, of allowing ourselves to be deceived with their imaginary felicity, let us, in circumstances of distress, have ever before our eyes the providence of God, to whom it belongs to settle the affairs of the world, and to bring order out of confusion.”
